There are many culturally and
historically valuable and remarkable waterways in the Karhuseutu area.
For example the Kokemäki river and its delta is one of the biggest
delta areas in Finland. Near these waters there are many interesting
stories and people behind the stories, active villages and villagers creating
their own area's
culture. Unfortunately this knowledge is often lost, because the
preserving of the local knowledge to the digital form is not economically profitable.
The constant development requires that people
are familiar with todays cultural area history
and gather the present information for the following generations.
Karhuseutu 2006-2007 delta-project offers
the villagers and the villages in the Karhuseutu area an opportunity to
document their own river area stories with the help of professional guides. This kind of
documenting gathers the villagers together. The project organizes new
media education courses, happenings, local movie presenting events and media
transactions.
The main goal is to create DVD presenting the active villages and
the local stories beside the waterways in the Karhuseutu area. This DVD
will be translated in english and can also be used as a
small brochure of
the Karhuseutu area. The stories in the DVD will be made by the
villagers.
In addition to the DVD the Karhuseutu
delta-project produces also many small documents and villagers' own
movies about their own areas et cetera. Also new educational courses
based on the needs and the interests of the villagers will be created and developed in co-operation with
Adult
Education Centre of the Town of Pori and other communal colleges in the Karhuseutu
area. These operational models created during the project can be used also
in the future.
